The Space Safari drone show went ahead at Dunorlan Park on Saturday 26 September, on the night it was booked for, and the organiser says thousands of people came to watch. After sunset, hundreds of drones lifted off over the park and drew a lion, a giraffe, a spaceship and the show’s chameleon across the sky above Royal Tunbridge Wells.

We previewed the evening earlier this month, when the ticket releases were selling out and Kent County Council was putting parking restrictions on the roads around the park. This is what it looked like on the night, in footage filmed from the crowd and supplied by the company that staged it, Immersive Drone Light Shows.

A story told in the sky

Space Safari is a touring production. On its own website, the company describes it as the story of Cleo the chameleon, who travels through the cosmos, with narration by the BAFTA award-winning presenter Michaela Strachan. The drones draw each scene in turn, set to a soundtrack, and the animals are the ones people photograph.

Shah Kibria, the show’s executive producer, said:

“It was fantastic to bring Space Safari to Tunbridge Wells and see families and friends gathered together in Dunorlan Park, looking up as hundreds of drones filled the night sky.

“What makes drone light shows so exciting is the ability to use the entire sky as a canvas. Through technology, movement, music and storytelling, we can create an experience that feels completely different from traditional outdoor entertainment.

Everything the company filmed, in one reel

The company sent us 13 clips from the evening. Eleven of the shorter ones are joined together below: a flying saucer, the animals, a wolf howling at the moon and a spaceship. Some of the audience wore light-up Space Safari wristbands, which you can see glowing in the first clip.

A whole evening, not just the finale

The drones were the finale of an event whose gates opened at 4pm. Before them, the company says, the park had live tribute acts, fairground rides, face painting, food stalls and dog-friendly competitions, and a bring your own picnic and chair ticket let families settle in on the grass for the evening.

The company also makes a point that will matter to some readers with Bonfire Night coming. It says Space Safari is “an eco-friendly and neurodiverse-friendly alternative to traditional fireworks, creating a large-scale aerial spectacle without loud explosive bangs, smoke or falling debris,” and that this “can provide a different option for families, pets and audiences who may find conventional fireworks overwhelming.”

Dunorlan Park is also the venue for the town’s fireworks on Saturday 7 November, so anyone who went to both will be able to compare them for themselves.

Where Space Safari goes next

The show has toured the UK this summer. The company names Wales, Chichester, Liverpool, Belfast and Guildford among the places it has played. According to the company and its events listing, read on 29 September 2026, the next three shows are:

  • Cambridge, at the Rowley Mile Course at Newmarket Racecourse, on Saturday 24 October (event page)
  • South Carolina, at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, on Saturday 12 December
  • Barcelona, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, on Saturday 19 December
